The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. — Sylvia Plath
For the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a creative project that, honestly, has been side-tracked by sneaky whispers of self-doubt.
“What am I doing?!? Is this any good at all? Oh gosh… I’m in waay over my head.”
Whenever this swirl of unproductive thinking takes control, I call a meeting.
A no-agenda meeting where I invite my Self-doubt and my Higher Self.
Listening to your Higher Self…first
I do it first thing in the morning, right after hydrating with water and a cup of green tea —because, priorities 🫖…
And because self-doubt is not an early riser, which means she’s a bit more quiet than usual.
It’s not “journaling”…that feels too formal.
I simply take a few minutes to write freely.
It’s a stream-of-consciousness practice where words to flow onto the page. And often, something unexpected happens—words come through that I didn’t consciously “think” to write. They feel like gentle messages from a wiser, higher place.
Recently, this message came through, and I believe it’s meant for you, too:
Sometimes it can feel really lonely in this world.
Like no one sees all your hard work. Your commitment to not giving up. All of the gazillion things you do to simply survive…
EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
I just wanted you to know that I am rooting for you, {$name}.
And there’s more than just me.
Really, there are many others. They may not have said or shown you lately, but they see what you do.
Your persistence matters. Your dedication counts. It is all making a difference—even if you can’t see it quite yet.
So take a deep breath. Place your hand over your heart. And ask yourself:
What’s the ONE message you need to hear from your Higher Self right now?
Here’s the thing—your Higher Self is always compassionate, supportive, and wise.
If the voice in your head is harsh or critical, that’s not your Higher Self talking. That’s Self-doubt and her cousin, Fear. They show up out of habit.
But you have a choice:
Will you listen or ignore the voices trying to keep you small?
Yes! I’m so glad you’ve chosen to ignore them…but it’s not always that easy, right?
So…what do you do next?
You need a “self-doubt practice.”
🌱The Practice: 3 Ways to Move Through Self-Doubt and Into Action
When self-doubt takes over, try one of these simple but powerful practices to shift your energy and reconnect with your inner wisdom:
1. Capture a conversation with your Higher Self
Write freely for five minutes. Ask your Higher Self a question—like, What do I most need to hear today?—and let the words flow. Trust what comes through.
2. Move Your Body
Self-doubt loves to keep you stuck in your head. Shake it loose by going for a walk, dancing to your favorite song, or stretching for a few minutes. Physical movement shifts your energy and helps clear mental clutter. Then ask your Higher Self, What is your message for me today?
3. Speak Encouragement Out Loud
Place your hand over your heart and say, “I am doing my best, and that is enough.” Or, “I trust myself and my journey.” Speaking words of kindness to yourself—out loud—can be incredibly grounding and powerful.
📌TRUTH TIP: Self-doubt will continue to show up, but it doesn’t have to run the show.
YOU are capable,
YOU are seen,
and YOU are making a difference…
whether or not you can see it…yet.
Now, your turn. Yes, now!
Just try it.
Remember, practice seeds possibilities.
What message did your Higher Self have for you today?
Maybe share it with someone else.
Who knows? Your words might be exactly what they need to hear, too.
