"What we know matters, but who we are matters more." —Brené Brown
What makes it feel like summer?
Warm weather
Flower gardens
Family reunions
Beach vacations
Ice cream on the back porch
But what are the feelings of summer?
Like much of life, summer feelings can be hard to put into words.
Sometimes joy, freedom, connection feel indescribable.
But as many of you know, summer doesn’t always give us a break from the equally powerful feelings of grief, fear…loneliness.
Summer feelings can leave us breathless.
They expand our hearts…and moments later break our souls.
It doesn’t matter what the feelings are.
We need something—a roadmap, a practice, a community—to keep us moving forward when things feel on-track…
And something to lean into when it feels like life has gone off the rails.
In order to navigate all of life’s complex and layered feelings, we need to check in with our dreams and values—our inner compass.
Can you clearly define what truly matters to you?
Close your eyes and go inward for a moment.
What images, thoughts, or feelings show up?
Those are the clues to what really matters.
How are you showing up? Are you in alignment?
Do you have a practice for gauging the four pillars of your best self: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health?
Knowing what truly matters to you in these key areas is the answer to getting back on track, living authentically, and inspiring others to do the same.
What matters to you might feel foreign to someone else and vice versa.
When we give space and grace to show up as our unique selves and then do the same for others, we all get the chance to live into our purpose with joy and compassion.
Let’s practice…
Grab a piece of paper and write down your answers (yes, writing makes a HUGE difference) to these questions:
- “What truly matters to me for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health?”
- “How am I showing up in these four areas?” Use a scale of 1 to 10, ten being you are in total alignment with what matters.
- “What is one small step I could take in each of these areas to show up as my True Self?“
- Commit to doing ONE of these steps this week.
- BONUS: Tell someone else about your commitment.
What’s your ONE commitment to doing “what really matters” this week?
And remember, above all else…YOU matter! 💚
