"The lake may appear frozen, but underneath, your dreams are waiting to breakthrough." —Wise Person
Ever feel frozen because you have too many good ideas?
Me too.
My notebooks, journals, and digital docs are overflowing with exciting ideas for future programs, wellness ideas, and creative projects. 📕📒📘📗 📚
While some think endless creativity is a blessing, it can also feel like a curse—especially if you have no clear practice for filtering the ideas, and then deciding which ONE to start first.
We get super fired up by an idea and it grows and grows…
and grows!!! 🌱🪴🌻👩🏻🌾🚜🌎
Soon you have this brilliant idea, but then get overwhelmed by all the decisions and actions it will take to follow through.
We get stuck in indecision on how to start…and end up doing zip, nada, nothing…again!
So many of us have inspiring visions for our careers, relationships, and personal growth, but too often we try to shoot for the moon on our first or fifth try.
And when things don’t go as planned, our inner critics (and some external voices) remind us of all the reasons we failed and will continue to fail.
So what can we do?
We need to shift our thinking to silence those voices.
It’s POSSIBLE when we start with clarity, focus, and simplifying our thinking.
One of my favorite tools to shift my thinking is a metaphor.
Too often we focus on the final result and forget all the micro-steps that need to take place first…before even what we see as the FIRST step.
Bear with my oversimplification of the rocket-launching process and how it aligns with pursuing one of your brilliant ideas.
There a three stages to a rocket. Each stage requires its own engine and fuel.
🚀Stage One: We forget that to launch a rocket, the engineers first must determine the right fuel and right engine to lift the rocket off the ground.
How are you fueling your body, mind, and spirit for the launch of your dream?
🚀Stage Two: We forget about the mathematicians who calculate how much weight the rocket must drop in order to climb higher and faster. The solution? The rocket drops the first stage’s empty fuel tank and engines.
What old habits and thought patterns are you ready to drop in order to feel “lighter” so you can move to the next stage of pursuing your dream?
🚀Stage Three: We forget the team of people with the right skills who test the pressure and heat the rocket can withstand. Others use past experiments to determine how much power and fuel it will take to accelerate and break free from earth’s gravity. How many unseen experiments did they conduct with each component before it all came together on the launchpad?
Who are the people on your “launch team?” Are they encouraging your growth? Are they challenging you to think differently? Are you conducting mini-experiments in your life before you create a big launch?
The biggest thing we miss in this launch process is the time the engineers and mathematicians have spent examining their thoughts about even having a chance at getting to the moon.
At one time, the world said, “It can’t be done.”
One-by-one people examined their own thoughts until the door opened for a shift in their personal beliefs about the possibility of reaching the moon.
When was the last time you took time to ask yourself, “What is the ‘moon’ I’m aiming for?” or “What does a life I love look like?“
Have you examined your beliefs to determine what shifts are needed in order to “launch” an idea, or bigger yet, a life you love?
If you’re struggling to answer these questions about your vision for the life you dream of having, you are not alone.
Most people never take the time to dig into their thoughts and dreams.
I believe you are ready to go deeper before taking the “first” step. (That’s why you’re still reading.)
You have the courage and commitment to bring life to your vision.
Grab paper and pencil and simply write your answers to these questions:
- How are you fueling your body, mind, and spirit for the launch of your dream?
- What old habits and thought patterns are you ready to drop in order to feel “lighter” so you can move to the next stage of pursuing your dream?
- Who are the people on your “launch team?” Are they encouraging your growth? Are they challenging you to think differently?
