"Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor—it’s anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living." —Peter Walsh
Have you ever noticed how good a house feels after we have picked up, put away, or cleared out?
How about the lingering effects of a well-cooked meal, a bouquet of fresh flowers, or an evening spent with fun-loving friends?
If you consider that every object, thought, and deed is a form of energy—vibrating somewhere between stuck and spacious, chaotic and coherent—you can guess where hope, health, and happiness show up.
✅Yep, near the top.
You know this, because you’ve lived the lightness and freedom of these high-energy emotions. It’s like rocket fuel for the soul!🚀
When we pay attention…
When we truly experience the hope and happiness pulsing through even the small, everyday moments…
When we reconnect with our true selves, we can feel the intense vibrations—the energy—in our bodies. And that energy becomes part of where we live.
The Spaces We Live In🏡
Our homes are not lifeless containers we fill with collections of stuff and life experiences.
They are alive and dynamic, like a house plant…just like we are.
The spaces we live in respond directly to our attentiveness and lack of it. There is no separation.
Our homes affect us and reflect us. And, depending on how we treat them and relate to them, they support us or oppress us.
Ultimately, anything you do to “love up” a space with compassionate awareness will shift the energy and lift you higher. And maybe shift the energy of an impatient partner or the overwhelmed kids.😉
The Secret Lies in the Practices🔁
The trick to lifting your home’s energy is to just keep tending and clearing the surrounding spaces in ways that feel good. Small, habitual choices…one space at a time…every day.
You’ll discover this daily practice can feel nourishing.
I mentioned a couple weeks ago, our gardens and our homes remind us that spaciousness is a “quality of being” that we cultivate and tend. It’s like caring for a houseplant. 🪴
A plant grows with attention to the soil, the lighting, and the moisture. And each season affects how you care for it.
Creating space in our homes and in our lives requires the same attention.
Spaciousness grows with practice.
It expands when we are not attached to our favorite season, phase of life, or “go-to” emotion. It especially flourishes when we can let go of emotional energy that no longer serves us.
Clearing our lives of the clutter that is holding us back is an inside job.
It’s an Inside Job💚
For today, set aside the list of all the rooms and closets you’ve been meaning to clean.🧺🧹
Instead, begin with the space (or lack of space) in YOU.
With a shift in perspective and a fresh approach that includes self-awareness, we can see where and why we are holding on to our “inside clutter.”
Self-reflection is the best way to grow, embrace change, and practice letting go of the inside clutter.
Clearing our previous season’s clutter is not a goal or a destination. It’s an intentional practice…a reflective pathway.
This seasonal practice will take you on a journey of personal transformation.
And an abundant harvest of impact, freedom, and joy.
And just in case you haven’t made space for a daily reflection practice yet, today is a great day to begin.
Start today.
Turn the “someday” into “today.”
Make today your Day One.
And tomorrow…and the next day…and the next day.
Before you know it, your “inside space” will guide you to clear the outside spaces, too.
Sweet Friend, it’s your turn to plant another seed of “letting go”. 🌱
This week:
Making time to journal or meditate on life’s deeper questions might feel hard at first.
Sort of like putting on a freshly washed pair of jeans. 👖 A little snug and uncomfortable, but as you move, you are reminded how well they fit and serve you.
This week, if you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck, take a deep breath and repeat the phrase, “I choose spaciousness.”
Allow the discomfort to flow through you and welcome the space it leaves behind.
Remember, it is all energy.
Then ask yourself these questions:
- Is this feeling telling me I need to remove something from my life? What might that be?
- What are the thoughts creating this feeling?
- Are these thoughts true? Are they helpful?
- If I let go if this thought, who could I become?
By exploring these questions, you will gain a deeper and longer laster experience with “letting go” in all areas of life.
What will you “let go” of this week?
